10 WWE Superstars John Cena Only Wrestled Once

Some matches really ARE 'Once In A Lifetime'...

When John Cena vs. The Rock was announced as the main event of WrestleMania XXVIII, the match was billed as being a 'Once In A Lifetime' affair. As in, that was the actual tagline, 'Once In A Lifetime'. Now I'm not an expert when it comes to such things, but 'Once In A Lifetime' suggests something taking place on one occasion and one occasion alone, so I was among the many who rolled their eyes when a rematch took place one year later at WrestleMania 29.

With the sheer amount of professional wrestling that WWE puts out on a weekly basis, it is pretty darn hard to find truly 'Once In A Lifetime' matches anymore. Sure, this may be easier for those making the transition to WWE from the independent scene, but for a man who has been on top for over a decade now, this is most certainly a needle in a haystack job.

A heck of a lot has changed since John Cena made his PPV debut. Only six individuals from the Vengeance 2002 card are still active wrestlers in WWE. Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Edge were tag champions. In the 14 years that have passed hundreds of stars have come and gone, yet Cena remains. Somehow, someway, some of his singles matches have proved to genuinely be 'Once In A Lifetime' matches.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
