I'll lump the current Raw Tag Team Champions in the same entry, for no reason other than laziness. The John Cena United States Championship Open Challenge threw up a whole host of interesting match-ups, but only four of the matches turned out to be 'Once In A Lifetime' jobs. I'll get on to the other two shortly, but two of these matches saw Cena go up against Big E. and Xavier Woods, then-as-now members of The New Day.

Woods was the first to challenge, a surprise to many as at this point he was still considered the weakest in-ring member of New Day by some distance. His trombone schtick was still fresh too, so the sound of Woods interrupting Cena by playing 'My Time Is Now' on the brass instrument was entertaining as all hell. The match itself went a good nine minutes, ending with a New Day interference and a DQ win for Cena.

The next week saw Big E. answer Cena's challenge, and I was absolutely shocked to learn that this was their only one-on-one TV match to date. Big E. made his TV debut by attacking Cena, but until this point the two had only met in tag and handicap matches. Cena picked up the win here after Woods and Kingston were eliminated from ringside.

Interestingly enough, John Cena has never faced Kofi Kingston in a one-on-one TV match.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
