10 WWE Superstars Who Didn't Debut As Wrestlers
3. Shane McMahon
First Appearance: 23 November, 1989
Official Debut: 15 December, 1998
SmackDown Live's current commissioner was born into the wrestling business, but not as himself. His first appearances on camera were as Shane Stevens, WWE's premier Fred Savage-looking referee. Seriously, Shane didn't strap on his baby blue dress shirt and bow tie until he was 18, but he absolutely looks like he's about to protest to Peter Falk that kissing scenes are gross.
Shane would get closer and closer to the ring over the years, including as a backstage official attempting to end a Ric Flair/Randy Savage brawl at WrestleMania XVIII, and later on as a commentator on Sunday Night Heat. He wouldn't officially have a match as a wrestler until late 1998, when he suffered a disqualification loss to Mankind on an episode of Monday Night Raw. Not exactly an auspicious in-ring debut, but it becomes more so when you think of it as a waypoint on Shane O'Mac's journey from pubescent referee to guy able to go toe-to-toe with The Undertaker at WrestleMania.
