The Summer Of Punk... although this entry could easily be about the RAW after 2014's Royal Rumble and the months following that when CM Punk took his ball and went home.

The Cult of Personality had clawed his way from relative obscurity to the very top of the company. He'd transformed himself from an indie darling that Vince McMahon didn't see any value in, to an indie darling who was just about McMahon's biggest star.

I wonder if Vince regrets giving Punk that live mic and an open forum on that episode of RAW...

Lines were blurred as Punk's contract really did run out the night of Money In The Bank 2011. Even though a deal was thrashed out before the show, it still remains one of the most intriguing angles of recent history. We just didn't know.

Nevertheless, Punk got everything he ever wanted and more from WWE, along with certain perks that Vince would normally reserve for his very top dogs - well, everything apart from a WrestleMania main event. At the end of the day, McMahon was never going to give a man who he never really believed in and didn't own the naming rights of EVERYTHING he ever wanted, right?

During those negotiations, and once more in 2014, CM Punk had Vince McMahon by his proverbial grapefruits. Vince did fire the Straight Edge Superstar on his wedding day though so I guess he got a little bit of revenge.
