10 WWE Superstars Who Have Been Hurt The Most By The Wild Card Rule
6. Matt Hardy
You don't understand how hard it is to be Matt Hardy.
After getting into arguably the best shape of his career, Matt made his triumphant return to SmackDown Live in February following a long layoff. Although it meant the end of his "Woken" persona in WWE, it was worth it for the return of The Hardy Boyz.
They captured the SmackDown Tag Team Championship for the first time in their careers two nights removed from WrestleMania 35 but were immediately forced to vacate them due to Jeff suffering an injury. That pretty much ruined any chance Matt had of remaining a regular on WWE TV once the Wild Card Rule went into effect.
It appeared he had a program planned with Lars Sullivan, but even that was scrapped once Sullivan got hurt. As of now, Matt hasn't had a single televised match since becoming SmackDown Tag Team champion in April.
It's understandable that the company would want to focus on fresh faces, but there is absolutely a place for Matt Hardy on WWE TV in 2019. He has an amazing mind for the business and can help contribute in a multitude of ways, including onscreen.
WWE apparently doesn't share that same mindset if his lack of appearances this year have been any indication. Odds are he'll continue to sit on the sidelines until his brother is cleared to compete again, Wild Card or not.
