10 WWE Superstars Who Should Be In Money In The Bank (But Aren't)
5. Shelton Benjamin
Despite his lengthy career, The Gold Standard has yet to win the big one wherever he has competed -- surely to his own chagrin.
Even with his years away from WWE, Shelton is still best remembered for his star-making performances in early Money in the Bank matches. He was undoubtedly the uncrowned MVP of the first-ever ladder match of its type when the concept debuted at WrestleMania 21 -- wherein he showcased his creativity as a competitor and his willingness to try anything. He then went on to be a regular tour de force in many of the subsequent Money in the Bank matches, before the match type became the namesake of its own annual pay-per-view in 2010.
However, Shelton was bogged down a bit upon his re-entry to the company as he and Chad Gable unsuccessfully chased after the SmackDown Tag Team titles. Interestingly, Benjamin has yet to compete in a ladder match since he rejoined the company, and he wasn’t even granted an opportunity to qualify for the upcoming pay-per-view contest. For a former Money in the Bank mainstay, it was an opportunity that he surely could have used as he re-enters singles competition on SmackDown.
