10 WWE Superstars You Won't Believe Never Held Intercontinental Title

IC no title belt around these icons' waists...

The Intercontinental Championship is one steeped in history, a title held by some of the greatest wrestlers to ever lace a pair of boots.

One look at the lineage of the championship, though, presents a look at how many Hall of Famers and all-time greats never had the opportunity to carry the title most closely associated with great in-ring workers.

They are not concentrated to one generation or era. Instead, they are spread out over the course of WWE's 50 years. Some are superstars who entered the company and immediately sought success at the top, winning heavyweight gold and starring for decades.

Others had their championship aspirations hampered by a brand split that separated them from the object of their obsession.

Whatever the case may be, there are several stars with resumes defined by titles but missing the one that has been at the centre of so many epic and classic matches and feuds.

Who are those influential competitors and how have they made it this far without wearing the coveted title? Take a look for yourself...

10. Yokozuna

Yokozuna took the wrestling world by storm when he arrived in WWE during the tumultuous year that was 1992.

A super heavyweight with agility not typically seen in a guy his size, he quickly earned the attention of management and ascended up the card.

Less than a year after debuting, he had won the Royal Rumble and held the WWE Championship...twice. The latest anti-American heel to reign over Vince McMahon's company, he was a phenomenon of sorts.

As a result of his rapid rise up the ranks, he never had the opportunity to compete for the Intercontinental Championship. He dismantled jobbers like Virgil, tore through ageing midcard stars such as Hacksaw Jim Duggan and scored a decisive pinfall victory over Hulk Hogan.

He did not need the title to bolster his resume or lend credibility to him. The massive member of the Samoan dynasty leapfrogged the traditional steps to immortality and achieved it very early, and easily, in his young career.

There were two distinct opportunities for him to chase the title though. After dropping the WWE title to Bret Hart at WrestleMania X, a midcard program between him and Razor Ramon could have done decent business.

Then, in 1996, he broke away from longtime manager Jim Cornette and underwent a babyface turn that could have been punctuated with a run with the title.

Alas, it never came and Yokozuna entered the history books as one of the higher profile stars to never wear the illustrious title.
