10 WWE Survivor Series Facts You Didn't Know

8. Only One Year without An Elimination Match

Still, despite the recent drop-off in the number of elimination matches on the Survivor Series cards, there has only ever been one event that didn€™t feature a single traditional elimination bout, and that was back in 1998. Of course, that event was the fondly-remembered Deadly Games show, in which the vacant WWE Championship was defended in a multi-man tournament that was won by a young, up-and-coming superstar (pretty much like this year, then, except with a tad more excitement and a lot less pessimism). But given that the very nature of a tournament requires there to be eliminations in order for a victor to be crowned, it could easily be argued that the 1998 Survivor Series€”and thus every Survivor Series€”has featured at least one elimination-themed contest. The only other dubious instance was 2002, where there were no elimination tag matches as such, but the main event was indeed an Elimination Chamber bout. And given the name, I think it€™s fair to conclude that that fits under the €œelimination match€ umbrella.
