10 WWE Tag-Teams That Shouldn't Have Worked (But Did)

4. The Rock N' Sock Connection

For the longest time, The Rock and Mankind were natural enemies. At the 1998 Survivor Series, Rocky turned heel in a match against Mick Foley's deranged character, kicking off a feud that included a brutal 'I Quit' bout at the 1999 Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Little did anyone think that just shy of nine months afterwards, both men would become partners.

The Attitude Era was rife with this kind of odd pairing, but The Rock N' Sock Connection must be considered a great example of erratic booking working out. Like any good act looking to further the strange bedfellows premise, The Rock acted like Mankind constantly got on his nerves, but he was fond of him anyway.

For their part, fans adored watching Rock and Mankind team together. Infamously, the 'This Is Your Life' segment from the September 27, 1999 episode of Raw pulled a monster television rating and is still remembered as one of the show's most memorable moments.

Foley's other teams with Steve Austin (as Dude Love) and Kane were memorable, but none could top what he accomplished at the side of The Rock.
