Chris Jericho's 2008 feud with Shawn Michaels was a flash-point in the career of Y2J, who was beginning to see his return momentum from the year before fall away after a few months floundering in the mid-card.

But the first victory of the series went to HBK, a decision that baffled many onlookers at the time, given that the Texan went into the match in the midst of the midlife crisis that followed his retiring Ric Flair at WrestleMania XXIV.

Looking at the storyline in its complete form, however, this was a master-stroke. It emboldened Jericho's conviction that Shawn - who had faked injury against Batista the month before - wasn't a man to be trusted, and set him on the path to becoming a more potent force once he turned heel.
