10 WWE Title Reigns That Never Lived Up To The Victory
5. Bayley (2017)
You could write a ten-item list of all the things WWE did wrong with Bayley’s babyface run on the main roster, as it was nigh on criminal how quickly they ruined her. Yes, she bounced back as a wonderful heel, but man, this was rough.
On NXT, Bayley developed a genuine connection with the fans. She was a happy, smiley babyface who appealed to not just the kids, but to the adults as well. Her never say die attitude and childlike enthusiasm was more endearing than annoying and the fans got her.
Vince McMahon didn’t.
Arriving later than the other three Horsewomen, 'The Hugger' began her main roster run in the summer of 2016, but it wasn’t until February 2017 that she would dethrone Charlotte Flair and become the RAW Women’s Champion. A solid win over Flair, Nia Jax and Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 33 followed, and it looked like Bayley’s momentum would continue.
Then the Alexa Bliss feud happened. Not only did this rivalry include the worst segment in recent memory - when Bliss hosted a ‘This is Your Fife’ segment for Bayley - but the overall feud ended up decimating the future 'Role Model's' character and prospects. They effectively turned her into a child, claiming she had never been kissed, took the belt off her after 76 days, and then when the moment came for her to prove herself in a ‘Kendo Stick on a Pole Match’, she bottled it.
Having seen what had in Bayley's NXT run, this was a major let down.
