Ronda Rousey’s debut match for WWE alongside Kurt Angle against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon drew a lot or praise from fans and critics at how natural Ronda had picked up the wrestling business. But she wasn’t always supposed to tag with the Olympic gold medalist.

The Rock was originally pencilled in to tag with Ronda that would have followed up on their entertaining in-ring segment at WrestleMania 31 when the pair chewed out 'The Game' and 'The Billion Dollar Princess' and laid them out. It would have finally given Rock and Hunter the opportunity to square up one more time, which they were both keen on making happen one day.

It wasn’t meant to be though, with Rock turning down the match because of his busy film, TV and promotional commitments, forcing WWE to look to Angle to take his place.

While promoting his movie Rampage, Rock opened up on the original WrestleMania 34 plans to KISS FM UK:

“As a matter of fact, Vince McMahon and I were talking about two months ago trying to figure out what I was going to do if I went back to WrestleMania. He pitched me this really great idea that I’d get involved in a tag match with Ronda Rousey who is of course incredible and I’m very proud of her. We couldn’t make it work this time because I was in Shanghai, but who knows down the line?”
