There was at one time concrete plans for The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30, with Rock even confirming in a tweet back in 2013 that ‘Between Vince, Brock & myself our WrestleMania 30 plan was ROCK vs BROCK. No plans now for 30 but possibly WM 31.’
It would have set up a huge rematch to their classic SummerSlam 2002 encounter and likely drawn very well at the box office. The program was due to kick off on the Raw the night after WrestleMania 29 that would set the stage for the following year’s WrestleMania main event.
At the last minute, the angle had to be shelved when Rock tore his abdomen and adductor muscles off the bone in his match with John Cena at WrestleMania 29. It required him to fly home straight away and get surgery. The injury was serious enough that if caused huge issues and delays to his filming schedule.
Rock declined the Lesnar match at WrestleMania 30 and 31, not wanting his time in the ring to be responsible for holding up various blockbusters he was filming.
