It says everything about how nondescript Shayna Baszler's main roster career has been that the pic above comes from SummerSlam 2023. Yes, almost a full year ago. Since then, Shayna has been stuffed in even more mediocre female tag teams. That seems to be her lot in life, but it can't be very satisfying.
Shayna was at her best in NXT before Vince McMahon got his creative claws into her and ripped an already fine, strait-laced MMA persona to shreds. Suddenly, Baszler was scared of dolls, teaming with Nia Jax and generally doing everything but what worked down in developmental. It made zero sense.
It still doesn't.
Baszler would be what Tony Khan hoped Marina Shafir could be. In other words, she'd have that MMA edge and carry a sense of danger whenever she walked to the ring for matches. Shayna had that before, and she can have it again; but only if she's willing to leave WWE behind.
