10 WWE Wrestlers Vince McMahon Couldn't Control

8. Sable

Along with Sunny, Sable was the impetus for the 'Divas' era of women's wrestling in WWE, when female performers were pushed almost entirely on aesthetics, and routinely objectified on national television. Bikini contests, strip matches, and other crude displays were the norm, and while they couldn't wrestle like Alundra Blayze, performers like Sable became immensely popular among WWE's young audience.

Sable walked into the wrestling business with no prior experience, but the company turned her into a huge star. She was one of the Attitude Era's most popular acts for a while, and although Sable had little skill between the ropes or on the microphone, it's often said that the two Vinces - McMahon & Russo - didn't even try to control her.

Noted wrestling curmudgeon Jim Cornette (whose opinions are best taken with a hint of cynicism, admittedly) has suggested that this was because McMahon and Russo had "infantile fetishes" for her. As a result, she was pushed to the top despite knowing next to nothing about the business, which earned her plenty of backstage enemies.

Sable eventually quit and filed a $110 million lawsuit against the company. The two parties settled out of court, and Sable returned in 2003, having seemingly curbed her unruly backstage ways.
