4. Daniel Bryan

It's still an absolute miracle to see Daniel Bryan wrestling again. Given how badly he was injured at his peak, it was perfectly reasonable to assume his career was over.

Shortly after felling Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 30, Bryan suddenly lost all strength in his right arm. His condition would require neck surgery and force him to relinquish his title. While the initial prognosis was positive, he went months without seeing any improvement. Needless to say, doctors and fans were preparing to bear tragic news.

Somehow, though, Bryan announced that he'd be returning for the 2015 Royal Rumble. Although everybody and their mother thought that he was going to win, it would not be so, as Bryan was unceremoniously eliminated after about 10 minutes.

Bryan would wrestle for a couple more months after this and even win the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 31 before once again being placed on the DL for what he called "concussion-related injuries". After months and months of speculation, Bryan bid a tearful farewell to professional wrestling in February 2016, citing post-concussive seizures and a small lesion that doctors found on his brain.

Two years later, out of nowhere, WWE announced that Bryan was cleared to return to in-ring competition. No longer wrestling as tentatively as he did in 2015, Bryan has enjoyed an injury-free run since then, and will likely be able to retire on his own terms.
