You almost have to do a double-take when you discover that Chris Jericho lost his first WWE match - to Road Dogg, no less - on the inaugural episode of SmackDown in August 1999.

Though a relative youngster at just 28, Jericho enjoyed one of the most memorable television debuts of all-time a couple of weeks earlier, interrupting The Rock before sharing a back-and-forth promo that is unlikely to be matched ever again.

But it all makes sense when you actually watch the match. While Y2J technically suffered defeat, he only did so as the result of a disqualification, the referee calling for the bell after the Canadian, so eager to showcase what he was made of, decided to powerbomb his opponent through a table.

After the bell, he then proceeded to trap Road Dogg in the Walls of Jericho, sending a loud message of intent to the rest of the locker room. He may have been misused in WCW, but there was no way he was going to be anything less than a marquee man in the WWF.
