Cesaro's current WWE spot isn't exactly terrible, to be fair. He's involved with one of the company's two or three most prominent tag teams, and even (along with half of the Raw roster, admittedly) headlined a pay-per-view last month.

It's just that you can say with a degree of conviction that this - a middling, albeit semi-popular, two-piece with Sheamus - will likely be as good as it ever gets for the former Ring of Honor star.

If they were ever going to push him into the main event, it would have been a couple of years back when he claimed the Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy at WrestleMania XXX and then received a Hulk Hogan-sized seal of approval. The time has simply been and passed.

Speaking of time, Cesaro will be 37 at the end of this year, leaving precious little of the stuff remaining in his career for him to have those brilliant singles matches of which we all think him capable. ROH and NJPW could facilitate them - that's all we're saying.
