10 WWE Wrestlers Who Went Backwards In 2017

9. Dean Ambrose

Is Dean Ambrose in a better position at the end of 2017? His placement in this article would suggest not. 2016 was an all-time year for The Lunatic Fringe, a year that saw him win his first WWE Championship and get a run as the number one guy on SmackDown Live. Ambrose seemed a great fit for the position, but he lost the title to AJ Styles and soon found himself feuding with The Miz, forever and ever and ever.

Ambrose now finds himself alongside Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a reunited Shield, but the former Jon Moxley comes off as the third most important member of the group. A heel turn is almost certainly on the cards however, and 2018 could yet be the best year of his career.

As it is, 2017 has seen Dean Ambrose stall and start going backwards. He has had many great matches alongside Rollins, but ‘third most important member of a three-man faction’ is undeniably a step back from ‘most important babyface on a brand’.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
