10 WWE Wrestlers Who Went Backwards In 2017

6. Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch hasn’t had a particularly terrible year, but it is hard to remember anything that the Lasskicker actually did in 2017. 2016 saw her become the first ever SmackDown Live Women’s Champion, an honour she carried with credibility and respect as she finally stepped out of the shadow of her fellow NXT Horsewomen.

2017 saw Charlotte Flair make the move over to Tuesday nights, and all of a sudden the flame-haired Lynch is back playing second fiddle. By the time Flair arrived on SmackDown Live, Lynch had already been passed by Naomi on the blue brand’s babyface pecking order. It has been a quiet year for the Lasskicker, and that can only be considered a step backwards.

Will things improve in 2018? Becky Lynch undoubtedly has the talent to become a true megastar in WWE, but the women’s divisions are more stacked than they have ever been. A number of NXT stars have recently jumped up to the main roster, and competition for spots is stronger than ever. 2018 could be a true make or break year for the inaugural SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
