Ron Truth Killings TNA Debut

It may be hard to believe, but at one point R-Truth was a really good heel. We were first introduced to him as K-Kwik in WWE as the tag partner of Road Dogg. He was your typical smiling babyface who just wanted to have a good time. It wasn’t very interesting. He was let go, and then showed up on the first ever TNA weekly pay-per-view.

Truth became the first African American to ever win the NWA World heavyweight Title when he defeated Ken Shamrock, and started delivering heated promos as Ron “The Truth” Killings. He had great fire, and looked to be one of the best young stars in the business with a bright future ahead of him. He later joined the 3 Live Kru, which was over with the crowd, but by that point Truth deserved better. Still, it was TNA that gave him a big shot at the top.

Truth returned to WWE in 2008, and has largely returned to the role of a dancing, rapping, smiling babyface. He’s also taken part in many of the company’s unfunniest skits of the past decade. A brief run as a main-event heel in 2011 showed he still had some passion left in him, but that was quickly squandered. He’s returned to being face, and these days he seems to be employed for the sole purpose of making Vince McMahon laugh.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
