After being handed the dreaded 'impersonator' gimmick that killed off Charlie Haas' career, the curtain looked to be closing on the real-life Aron Stevens' WWE tenure. However, WWE and Sandow struck gold with the character of 'Mizdow'.
Acting as the Miz's stunt double, Mizdow threw himself into the role with abandon. Watching the former Sandow copy the Miz's moves and bumps on the outside of the ring became the highlight of every match featuring the pair, and Mizdow's burgeoning popularity meant WWE had the chance to catch lightning in a bottle.
Unfortunately, WWE dropped that bottle and flash-fried Sandow's career in the process. Seemingly alarmed by Mizdow's unscripted rise to prominence, WWE quickly put him back in his place by having him decisively lose his feud to the Miz in an anticlimactic fashion.
Thus did WWE save themselves from an unexpected surge of popularity. A task they would only get better at in the years to follow...
