10 WWE Wrestlers You Can’t Believe Got Over

1. Shane McMahon

I feel compelled to adopt the first person here because I can’t believe Shane got over.

Shane worked in the Attitude Era. As a heel, he was a slimy, silver spoon-fed spoiled brat whose lunatic bumps were grand reckonings. As a face, he had the good grace to wrestle as if he wasn’t a wrestler - because he wasn’t; his best-ever match, with Kurt Angle at King Of The Ring 2001, was a 25-minute test of pure guts in the face of Angle’s far superior technical skill.

His portrayal in 2017 is a betrayal of fiction. He is set to captain the SmackDown Survivor Series team opposite Angle as his equal - a position built through his new power absorption ability. He can trade strikes with the Undertaker, chain wrestle with AJ Styles, and violently brawl with Kevin Owens. There seems to be no end to his talents.

He is very over, which probably makes me out of touch. Fans tend to overlook the plot holes, the nepotism - but why? Is the nostalgic elixir of the Attitude Era that powerful? Do match structures, believable psychology, mean that little in comparison to the ego-trip stunt shows? Is Stephanie McMahon that despised that Shane becomes the lesser of two evils by default?

These are questions I can’t answer.
