Both WWE and Ring of Honor have spent time highlighting the biggest names to come out of ROH and rise to prominence for Vince McMahon’s company. While both companies are smart to highlight these men and women, there are hordes of other wrestlers who took the same path, with much less acclaim. One such wrestler who went directly from Ring of Honor to Monday Night Raw is Matt Striker.

Before joining WWE, Striker was a high school teacher in the New York City school system spending his nights and weekends moonlighting as a wrestler. After losing his teaching job when his wrestling career was discoverer, he shortly thereafter debuted in Ring of Honor. He first appearance was at Sign of Dishonor, where he chose to thank the fans for their support of his post teaching career. Striker would be attacked by The Embassy, setting up a match the next night.

In his lone Ring of Honor match, Matt Striker would defeat Mike Kruel of The Embassy, once again in front of his hometown crowd. While the future looked bright for Striker in Ring of Honor, WWE capitalized on the mainstream news from Striker’s firing as a teacher, and signed him soon after.
