Following Alberto Del Rio’s controversial release from WWE in August 2014, Mexico’s Greatest Export debuted in Ring of Honor shortly after his non-compete clause expired.

Now going by Alberto El Patrón, his debut was against Christopher Daniels in a winning effort. After the match, Jay Lethal would confront El Patrón and would attack the former WWE superstar with his House of Truth cohorts. After defeating ACH and Roderick Strong and ACH during a Ring of Honor Tour, El Patrón was granted a ROH World Television Championship match against Lethal.

The match would take place at the ROH 13th Anniversary Show, in the semi-main event of just the third pay-per-view for Ring of Honor. Despite a solid showing from the controversial ex WWE employee, El Patrón would lose the match and the title opportunity.

In his final appearance for Ring of Honor, El Patrón would team with ACH and Matt Sydal to defeat the Briscoe Brothers and Roderick Strong before returning to WWE shortly thereafter.
