100 Greatest WWE Matches Of All Time (Ranked)
59. Vince McMahon vs. Shane McMahon (WrestleMania X-Seven)
There will be those hammering fists against desks and wondering aloud how this bout bagged a spot so high up, but...have you watched it recently? Granted, some out there will understandably turn their noses up at anything involving Vince McMahon these days, but Vince vs. his son Shane was some brawl and proved to be the perfect slice of McMahon family drama at a time when that was still the in thing.
Many consider WrestleMania X-Seven to be the pinnacle of the series, and that hasn't changed even when WWE has hit the 40s with their iconic tentpole event. In 2001, seeing Linda McMahon rise up from a wheelchair to boot her disgraceful husband right in the balls got one of the biggest pops ever.
No, really. You'd have to go some to top what Linda got here. This was a 'Stone Cold' level pop from the live audience. They also enjoyed seeing Trish Stratus bite back at McMahon, and Shane's Rob Van Dam tribute "Coast To Coast" (Van Terminator) was shot from a delicious angle. It legit looked like he put his feet right through Vince's skull.
Admittedly, having Mick Foley there as special guest referee didn't add that much to the occasion, but he was a big star and was always going to get a stir from the live crowd regardless of what he was doing on the night. Mick's role gave way to brilliant brawling between father and son, as well as all the melodrama with Trish and Linda rising up like some sort of well-coiffed, charisma-less version of The Undertaker.
Fabulous scenes.
