100 Greatest WWE Royal Rumble Moments Ever
30. Randy Savage Goes After Jake Roberts (1992)
Being honest, this is the stage of the top 100 when things start getting really, really difficult. Thrashing out the minor details of all these moments, then deciding which ones should go where is nightmare stuff. It's enough to keep any self-respecting mega-fan awake at night. Some retro lovers will stay awake cursing the fact this is so low.
Macho Man might even have cut a promo on it. Ah-huh!
Randy Savage sprinted out as #21 in the 1992 Rumble and didn't waste time going after hated rival Jake Roberts. Previously, Roberts had forced a snake to bite Randy's arm at the tail end of 1991, so there was bad blood between the pair that still needed to be settled. Randy eliminated Jake, then hit a dive spot on top of him and... was allowed back in.
Yeah, the rules on that have changed a lot over the years. Sometimes it's allowed, sometimes it isn't. Fans didn't care about the specifics in '92 - they just enjoyed the visual of an angry Mach taking Roberts out.
