It'd be a lie to call the 1999 Royal Rumble one of the greatest ever as a whole. In fact, nobody in the match really mattered other than Steve Austin, Vince McMahon, and Chyna (who made history by becoming the first woman to enter). There were long stretches with only one wrestler in the ring, and cameras cut backstage a lot throughout.

The whole match threatened to look overbooked, but that finish was something special.

Austin and McMahon entered as #1 and #2, then Stone Cold was taken to hospital following a backstage attack by members of The Corporation. In typical Austin fashion, Steve returned and re-entered the match as a horrified Vince sat on commentary. McMahon watched on as nobody claimed his $100,000 bonus for eliminating the Rattlesnake, but sneaked a win come close of business.

New WWF Champ and Corporation ally The Rock distracted Austin long enough for Vince to clumsily throw him over the top rope to the floor. The live crowd couldn't believe what they were seeing as an exhausted (?!) McMahon celebrated with his Stooges and son Shane in-ring.

The actual Rumble might've been poor by comparison to most others, but the start and finish were red-hot. Vince’s win remains iconic.
