In many ways, 'Mania VI was a celebratory sendoff for the original aura of Demolition. Ax and Smash would be joined by new member Crush in June 1990, so anyone curious about the team's popularity should watch that year's supershow to find out just how over the Demos were before things got watered down in a hurry. Put it this way: Demolition winning the tag belts got as big a pop as anything Hulk Hogan or The Ultimate Warrior related on the night.

Now that's over!

Gorilla Monsoon also announced that Demolition had managed to "three-peat". In other words, this was their third WWF Tag-Team Title success since bursting onto the scene in 1987 (originally with ex-Moondogs member Randy Colley as Ax's partner). The SkyDome in Toronto was ready for it; they popped their heads off for Ax and Smash beating Bobby Heenan's Colossal Connection duo of Andre The Giant and Haku. For the record, largely due to Andre's failing health, Haku did most of the work during the match.

That was fine. The big story was Demolition winning the belts and giving 'Mania VI lift off. Some, including this writer, have remarked that 1990's event was a one match show. That's true to an extent, but it's also slightly unfair on Demos vs. Colossal Connection. Their bout was a key addition to the undercard, and it reminded everybody watching that the new champs were one of the best gimmicks in the federation.

Sadly, that wouldn't be the case for too much longer. What a night 'Mania VI was for the pair though.
