11. Celebrating The Hitman

The conclusion of WrestleMania 10 was a year in the making.

A year earlier, backstage politicking brought an end to Bret Hart's reign as WWE champion and threatened his status as the face of the New Generation. When Lex Luger rose to prominence later in 1993, it looked like Bret was being shoved to the background. But the harder he worked, the better his performances, the fans continued their support of The Hitman. It got to the point that, as much as Vince McMahon wanted the jacked Luger to represent his company as is face, Hart was the fans' choice.

WrestleMania X was his coronation, once and for all.

Hart defeated Yokozuna to regain the WWE Championship inside New York's historic Madison Square Garden. The moment represented the righting of a massive wrong and a celebration of the company's greatest workhorse. After a year of carrying the company on his back, Hart was hoisted onto the shoulders of his peers, including the aforementioned Luger and intercontinental champion Razor Ramon, and carried in the air.

In many ways, it was symbolic of those men and WWE owner Vince McMahon looking to Hart to guide them, propping him up as their hero. Hart would go on to state in his autobiography "Hitman," that the celebration was not known to him, making it even more real and emotional.
