WWE is struggling greatly with cool babyfaces these days. There just aren't many great choices for older fans to latch onto. So far, Dean Ambrose is creating a connection with the crowd, and fans dont have to feel embarrassed for cheering him. Besides cutting great promos, Ambrose is solid in the ring with a unique and hard-hitting style. Hes also great at selling, and makes his opponents look good. When he first came into the company, he seemed to be the next great Roddy Piper type heel. So far, though, he has impressed as a babyface and has main-evented a few Raws recently. Its too bad that hes off to film a (hopefully better than Leprechaun) WWE film, as he was gaining a bit of momentum. Perhaps fans will be even more excited to see him when he returns. Unlike Roman Reigns, Ambrose would be a more organic choice to stopping Lesnar. If he keeps growing in popularity, he could be their next breakout star. It seems likely that WWE wants Reigns to be that guy, but he isnt as good at cutting promos or in the ring as his former Shield brethren. Ambrose may not be WWEs top choice to dethrone Lesnar, but months down the line (or longer) he may be their best one.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
