11 Biggest Missteps On The Road To WrestleMania 38
3. Stupendous!
Marketing is obviously an important component of the WrestleMania machine.
But marketing is often thought of as a smart, well-thought-out effort that uses logic, time-tested practices and maybe even focus groups. In WWE, it’s just Vince McMahon plucking an obscure word from the dictionary, slapping it on a graphic and making his announcers and talent use the word repeatedly in all conversations about Mania, as if that is some genius strategy.
And thus, “The most STUPENDOUS two-night WrestleMania in history!” was born. For the record, this literally is only the third two-night Mania in history, the first being the empty Performance Center WrestleMania 36 that is never shown on TV. But yeah, let’s go with it.
It’s just an insanely stupid “marketing” ploy that feels riveted onto every comment from an announcer or wrestler at this point, as even some superstars are using it in an almost derisive or sarcastic way.
But the fact that a billion-dollar company heading into its 38th annual version of the Super Bowl is just using mindless and meaningless buzzwords to set the template for marketing is another head-shaking moment on the Road to WrestleMania.
