Like Gowen, Gregory the Hurricane Helms enjoyed brief success in the WWE, but for a time, he was one of the most popular Superstars on RAW. Strapped with a cheesy Superhero gimmick, Helms ran with it, turning it into something that fans actually wanted to see. His patience was rewarded with a brief, albeit memorable feud with the Rock in 2003 during the lead-up to WrestleMania XIX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ztwfe5vgPgQ The Rock is known as arguably the best talker in WWE history, able to make a good promo great, and a great promo outstanding. His catchphrases have become the stuff of legend, and the man himself was a multi-time World Champion by the time this feud started. Few expected the Hurricane to have any chance against the Rock, but Helms proved everyone wrong. Despite Rocky constantly belittling the Hurricane, and despite the obvious size advantage and difference in star power, Hurricane held his own against the Great One. Finally, on March 10th, 2003, The Rock faced the Hurricane in a singles match. It seemed that the Rock would win, as he was bigger, stronger, and fought dirty. But, thanks to a surprise appearance from Stone Cold Steve Austin, the Hurricane rolled-up the Rock to pick up the surprise win. While it might not have been a big deal in the grand scheme of things, that win at least made the Hurricane look like a bigger star. Pinning a multi-time World Champion like the Rock elevated his star power, and helped build on the rivalry between Rocky and Austin for their match at WrestleMania XIX. This was one small example of an underdog coming out on top against a seemingly unbeatable opponent.
