11 Head-Scratchingly Long WWE Royal Rumble Performances

6. Joey Mercury - 29:14 (2006)

Joey Mercury (far right) is currently enjoying something of a resurgence on WWE programming, acting as a lackey of Seth Rollins as part of 'J&J Security' with Jamie Noble. Though the pair have only officially stepped into the ring in these roles once, their interferences in the matches of their charge are frequent, and are one of the more amusing elements of The Authority angle, which is long past its sell by date. As an active performer, Mercury was part of one of the more memorable teams of the mid-noughties, MNM, in which he had Johnny Nitro as a partner and Melina as a valet. The group won the WWE Tag Team Championship on three occasions during a period where the presence of two sets of tag team titles meant that the roster was filled with lots of other makeshift and/or forgettable tag teams. Mercury would end up being the 'Jannetty' of the team, to an extent as drug abuse meant that he missed six months of action in 2006 and was eventually released in 2007, whilst Nitro, as John Morrison, went on to become a three-time Intercontinental Champion before his own release in 2011. Retrospectively, this makes his 29 minute stint in the 2006 Rumble, memorably won by Rey Mysterio from the #2 spot, seem excessive, even if did have a couple of highlights in the form of Mercury and Nitro's tag team elimination of the returning Tatanka and Mercury's ultimate elimination at the hands of his partner.
