In 2002, Edge was attempting to carve a singles career for himself. Having had a successful early career with storyline brother Christian, Edge initially continued his ‘awesome’ character arc, not surpassing the midcard.

Edge turned heel in 2004 due to ongoing jealousy towards the likes of established main-eventers such as Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit. However, it was when news broke out about a real-life feud with Matt Hardy, after Edge had an affair with Hardy’s real-life girlfriend, Lita, that the Toronto native became despised by the WWE Universe.

Edge didn’t shy away from this, and instead turned himself into the ‘Rated-R Superstar’ and went on to become one of the best heels in the company’s history. During the white-hot run, Edge went on to hold multiple World Championships and had stellar matches with the likes of The Undertaker, John Cena, and Jeff Hardy.

In the Attitude Era, Edge was a superb tag superstar. In the Ruthless Aggression Era, he proved that he was a Hall of Fame-worthy main event talent.
