Quick Quiz: What do Roman Reigns, Edge, Goldberg, Rhyno, The Big Show, Batista, Kaitlyn, Big E, Charlotte Flair, and Bobby Lashley have in common? No cheating and looking at the title of this entry.

Oh, okay then, I gave it away. They've all, at some point, used a spear as a signature move. And now, we can add Matt Riddle to that list as he's seemingly taken all three of Goldberg's moves and incorporated them into his own in-ring style.

The Spear (shoulder block takedown) is one of those moves that can either look entirely ineffectual or absolutely brutal, and how it comes across depends equally on those who deliver and receive the move. Of those above, Goldberg and Reigns have delivered some absolutely violent looking spears, but the master of the move is undoubtedly Edge. Seemingly able to bust it out from anywhere and against anyone, it almost always looks like a finishing move when he performs it.

Which is why WWE's insistence on adding it to the arsenal of so many others, diminishing what should be a wind-stealing finisher down to a regular strike, is so disappointing. Still, with the master of the spear back in WWE for his farewell tour, this writer isn't going to complain too much if we see a few more of them in the future.

After hearing that you are what you eat, Mik took a good hard look at his diet and realised he might just be a szechuan spare rib alongside prawn fried rice.
