Like his former Nexus and Corre brethren, Heath Slater was on the same path walked by Justin Gabriel in the build to Money In The Bank 2011. Slater emerged as the heel from his and Gabriel’s tag team breakup, and remained a plucky, or rather cocky, blue-collar brawler. Still, he was screaming out for a new lease on life after breaking away from the rookie factions, but struggled to get over in the immediate aftermath. These struggles would continue for quite some time.

His role in the World Heavyweight Championship briefcase ladder skirmish was minimal, such was the lack of distinction in his character. Competitors such as Gabriel, Sin Cara and eventual winner Daniel Bryan could cover the high-flying spots, whilst Kane, Wade Barrett and Sheamus took care of the power game. Add in the alluring heeling of Cody Rhodes, and this makes for an intriguing, if not magnificent seven in many respects. Slater was the odd one out in the eight-man lineup, which is not a position that boded well for the future One-Man Rock band.

Whilst obviously carrying a load of charisma - which he showcased when handed more prominent roles such as leading comedy jobber stables 3MB and The Social Outcasts - Slater was miscast in this match. It was the closest he would ever come to a World Title picture at the very least.
