Of course, no list of house show title changes can be complete without the biggest one of all.

In 1994, Bret Hart was making his mark as champion after having defeated Yokozuna at WrestleMania X. Hart then battled Bob Backlund in a submission match at Survivor Series that year, in which a cornerman had to throw in the towel to submit for the wrestler (similar to how Backlund lost his WWF title back in 1983).

Hart’s mother Helen threw in the towel after Bret had been locked in Backlund’s crossface chickenwing for several minutes, making Backlund a world champion in three different decades. His reign would be short-lived, however, as Diesel would challenge him at (where else?) Madison Square Garden three days later.

A kick to the gut and a jackknife powerbomb and eight seconds later, Diesel was WWF champion. His reign might not be remembered as a great one, but Diesel’s title win certainly was one of the most memorable – even if only several thousand saw it live.
