SmackDown's women's division is in an awful place. Just six weeks ago, the promise of a first ever women's Money in the Bank ladder match gave it some great momentum. The mess that was James Ellsworth put an end to that, and weeks of putting the entire division in one match has all but killed the division.

The five women who aren't the champion or the Money in the Bank briefcase holder did battle at Battleground to decide a number one contender for Naomi's championship. Natalya came out on top, but does anyone believe it will be Naomi vs. Natalya at SummerSlam? Why does it feel like another multi-women match is on the way?

The match itself was a mess. WWE still struggles with elimination matches, going all in on action before shotgunning eliminations towards the end of the match. This bout featured three eliminations in 30 seconds, after eight minutes of none. Why have the elimination stipulation in the first place?

SmackDown Live's women's division desperately needs freshening up.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
