11 Reasons WWE Battleground 2017 Was Absolutely Terrible

WWE Battleground desperately needed a match to revive the show. On paper, AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens is exactly what was ordered - two of WWE's finest in-ring performers going one-on-one, with a championship on the line. In reality, this match helped to kill an already dead crowd even more.

The match itself was fine, but the finish was the end of all hope for this show. Owens threw AJ into the referee, before putting KO into the Calf Crusher. Owens eventually got AJ into a crossface, which AJ countered with a crossface of his own. The referee was still struggling at this point, further confirming the theory that WWE referees are made out of glass.

Owens rolled AJ over and picked up the 1-2-3, making AJ Styles look like a complete idiot for not breaking the hold. AJ's shoulder was also up, which almost justifies the referee bump. This was the second straight pay-per-view match between these two that had a hokey finish. There is simply no need for this.

How difficult is it to book AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens for the United States Championship? Give two of the best in the world 15 minutes and a clean finish. There. Easy. Done.
