Wrestling fans are spoiled right now, as there is so much incredible content available to fans in 2017. New Japan is killing it with the G1, and all around the world promotions are putting on glorious match after glorious match. These truly are special times.

WWE had a great run of shows with excellent matches, but that run has since come to a screeching halt. Battleground was full of throwaway matches that did nothing but continue stories that simply do not need to be continued. The card was full of matches that would not be out of place on any episode of SmackDown Live.

Sami Zayn vs. Mike Kanellis was the most glaring example of this at Battleground. The two had a perfectly serviceable match, albeit one with no heat and absolutely no consequences. Zayn picked up the win with the Helluva Kick, and whilst it is great to see Sami win on pay-per-view, it doesn't bode well for Maria's husband.

Because that is all Mike Kanellis is at this point. The former Mike Bennett made his debut a month ago, but he is already somewhat dead in the water. Kanellis is already stuck in WWE 50/50 Booking Land, portrayed as a useless second to a beautiful woman. What a shame.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
