9. Beaver Cleavage And Seven Are Just An Act

Producing vignettes costs money. Putting them on TV also costs money, because anything else could be aired in its place. That makes it a bit of a wonder why both the WWF and WCW went to the lengths of hyping up a character for weeks only to immediately scrap them, and then had the wrestlers tell us it was all an act that they were forced to play.

Beaver Cleavage was an incestuous man child from the 1950s who was perhaps cryogenically frozen, and released in the late '90s. Maybe. Well, for weeks we saw groan inducing and disturbingly sexual segments involving him and his “mom.” Despite us all being grossed out by this, he finally made his debut, defeated Christian and then the next week during a backstage promo he became frustrated, and told us that he wasn’t actually Beaver Cleavage; he was just Chaz. However, Chaz was even less interesting than Cleavage, and didn’t last long.

Seven met a similar fate in WCW. The incoming Dustin Rhodes was asked to player another spooky Goldust-like character, but this version had a fondness for looking in young boy’s bedrooms. Standards and Practices was none too pleased with this idea, so Vince Russo scrapped the entire thing and tried to shoot on us.

Seven floated to the ring on his debut, and then immediately ripped off his mask and told us he was sick of crap like this and it’s part of why he wanted to leave the WWF. Both of these instances were incredibly damaging, as it exposes absolutely everything. If someone made those guys play characters, then every single character within the show's own narrative is also fake then, right?

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
