It's previously been reported that one facet of AEW that particularly impressed CM Punk, was how Tony Khan and his promotion handled the tragic passing of Brodie Lee.

The real-life Jon Huber sadly died on 26 December, and what made this even more shocking to the wrestling world was how nobody even knew Brodie was ill. In a testament to the guys and gals of AEW, Jon's wife Amanda had informed the roster of her husband's condition and requested that this news remain private; something which those involved in AEW respected and stuck to.

When asked by Renee about how the handling of this tragedy played a part in him signing with AEW, Punk explained:

"Yeah, that's self-explanatory. I think everybody always talks about the business and how it's a family, and I think that's just a naïve way of putting it, because there's people in charge who don't give a sh*t. This was a breath of fresh air. It was a horrible, horrible situation. There's just something to be said about not running to the dirt sheets, 'Oh, I have a nugget of information'. Whatever high you get from being somebody in the know and talking about stuff that really is nobody else's business, everybody just kept their mouth shut as a request from somebody who unfortunately became a widow. I look at that, and it wouldn't happen if it was anywhere else, and I go, 'That's neat'. It's nobody's business. I understand people like to see how the sausage is made and they're into the backstage salacious stuff, but this sh*t was nobody's business. To see it protected, it made me think maybe there's hope."
