11 Things We Learned From Legends With JBL With Booker T (Part 1)

9. Learning To Survive

Booker was thirteen-years-old and living in an abandoned house with the water and electricity shut off. He had nothing, just barely eating and drinking enough to survive, but survive he did.

Booker always felt as though things would get better and credits the relationship with his older sister for getting him through it. They lived from one day to the next. Some of his other brothers and sisters would come by, but they wouldn't do much for them. Booker, to his credit, doesn't feel like he was abandoned and doesn't blame them, saying everyone dealt with their mother's passing in different ways.

He no longer cared about school and got a job at a cocaine and heroin house at age 14/15. He tried his best to have a regular life but he didn't show up for class, opting to hang out in the seedy parts of town instead. He wasn't focused and the only thing he enjoyed about school was being in the band (he was a drum major).

The former five-time WCW World Champion wanted to be a positive influence and an upstanding member of society but he kept getting dragged back into the life by a rough crowd. He also mentions how his sisters would teach him how to steal, which made him feel as though he could do no wrong.
