8. Prison

Booker got into selling marijuana, saying it's not that he 'didn't have a choice' he just didn't have a 'good choice'. He didn't really understand how dangerous getting into the drug game could be, since he didn't exactly watch the news or read the papers. It was a means of survival, but he did see people get shot at and stabbed up close and personal.

At a couple of points he tried to leave the lifestyle. He had a young son to look after and took a job at Wendy's. Unfortunately, he didn't listen to his manager and was fired. In retaliation, him and his friends decided to rob the place ('We'll show her'), becoming the 'Wendy's Bandits'.

They got away with robbing Wendy's diners around the area, about 26 times in total, and were not exactly making a tonne of money doing so, but Booker says it was more about peer pressure and trying to stick it to his former employers. Once he was in it, he found it hard to get out of it.

One of his co-defendant's girlfriends rolled on them to police in order to get a $5,000 reward. One night Booker returned to his apartment and was swarmed by the cops and was subsequently put under arrest. Booker was sentenced to prison (he ended up serving nineteen months for armed robbery) where he spent a lot of time reflecting on the way his life had turned out.

He took time to get his GED while locked up and also became a member of the weight-lifting team. He also became a big Randy Travis fan, believe it or not. Booker was respected by the guards and the prisoners but, when he left, one of the guards told him he would 'see him when he gets back' (the two later met again at a wrestling show and it was a peaceful, cool reunion).
