11 Things WWE Got Right At Survivor Series 2016

1. Goldberg Destroys Lesnar

Well, where to begin? In what was one of the most shocking matches in WWE history, Goldberg returned to a WWE ring 12 years after his last match to annihilate Brock Lesnar. In one minute and 25 seconds Goldberg destroyed the man who ended The Undertaker's WrestleMania Streak, the man who squashed John Cena, the man who has conquered all of the young guns in WWE's possession. Two spears and a Jackhammer was all it took.

There are a lot of reasons to be angry at this; WWE hyped a match that ended up lasting the length of a particularly swift micturition, and fans in attendance can justifiably want their money back. There is also the school of thought that says defeating Lesnar should have been saved for someone that will get a rub from it going forward.

The problem with that second idea is that as fans we've thought that about a million things, but it is too risky a strategy more often than not. Remember that once there was a genuine school of thought that said Ted DiBiase Jr. was the right man to end The Undertaker's streak.

Second of all, WWE is running out of nostalgia acts to bring back, so ending one in one night would have been foolish. Goldberg looks more like a beast than ever, despite actually aesthetically looking more like Gillberg than ever. Lesnar clearly underestimated him in the build up, and was made to look like a fool.

Which is also something we've wanted all year. Lesnar had grown stale, grown boring, and by having him so easily annihilated here the man has room for growth. Where he goes next will be infinitely more interesting than where he has been this year.

Finally, the show ended with a grown man and his emotional son celebrating in front of a sold out crowd. Professional wrestling is heroes conquering villains and celebrating in emotional fashion. Sometimes it seems we forget that.
