11 Things WWE Got Right With UK Championship Tournament
10. A Belt Worthy Of The Title
WWE has a hit and miss record when it comes to the designs of championship belts. The current Intercontinental Championship is an example of a strap that looks like something worth winning, whilst the Cruiserweight Championship looks as though someone decided to glue some tin foil onto a workout belt. The less said about the old Divas Championship the better, not to mention the current tag titles.
The WWE United Kingdom Championship belt was a certified home run however. The belt stays true to the current design that the company is so fond of, but peppers it with various nods to the history of the United Kingdom. The UK coat of arms take centre stage, and the black leather strap is a wise adherence to tradition. WWE could have gone all out trying to give the belt a contemporary design, but sometimes old fashioned is the way to go.
The belt could easily be a prestigious prize in an international combat promotion or the trophy given to the winner of an underground bareknuckle brawling club in Southend-on-Sea. It could equally be the crest of a dingy pub in Castleford, and as such was the perfect championship design for this tournament.
