11 Things WWE Got Right With UK Championship Tournament

9. The Redemption Of Michael Cole

Michael Cole gets his fair share of stick from the WWE Universe, but the lead announcer for RAW gave a fantastic performance in Blackpool over the weekend. One of the highlights of the Cruiserweight Classic was the announcing of Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan, and Cole and Nigel McGuinness gave a performance in the UK Championship tournament that was every bit the equal of the SmackDown Live team.

McGuinness lent an air of credibility to the booth, putting over the moves and motives of the men involved in the competition, but it was Cole who came away with the most plaudits. Whilst calling his performance 'incredible' would be a stretch, his announcing went a long way to proving just how good he is, especially when he doesn't have his boss screaming at him through an earpiece.

Cole was frequently able to put over the gravity of the tournament along with Britain's proud wrestling history, and his work added to the entire show. He may have struggled with the concept of CBBC (who doesn't?) on night two, but the leader of the Cole Miners well and truly deserved his Blue Peter badge at the end of the day.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
