11 Things WWE Got Right With UK Championship Tournament

4. William Regal - Angry Dad

WWE did a great job of letting the talent do most of the storytelling throughout the tournament, but the brief interactions the wrestlers had with the authority figures were all the more powerful for their brevity. An interesting juxtaposition could be found at the end of night one following Dunne's attack on Gradwell. Triple H simply told The Bruiserweight to make a name for himself, a ruthlessness that set Hunter aside as a puppet master and little else.

William Regal responded in a different way however, displaying an anger that dripped through the screen. Regal's admonishing of Dunne was fantastic, exacerbated by Dunne's facial expressions. Dunne looked for all the world like a naughty son caught in the act, a child that no longer respects their father but knows that papa could knock them out in a second. Regal played the role of angry dad to a tee, and Dunne excelled as the rebellious teen who knows he is just a few short years away from being the pack leader.

It also ramped up the emotional importance of the entire tournament. That Regal was so angry at the possibility of Dunne hijacking the whole thing gave the impression that everything mattered just that little bit more, and added further impetus behind whomever Dunne faced throughout.
