11 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Hulk Hogan
4. Mr. America
Following the Hulk Hogan/Vince McMahon match at WrestleMania 19, Hogan was told to stay at home by McMahon because he wanted Hulkamania to die. Then on May 1, 2003 (a month after WrestleMania 19), Mr. America debuted on Smackdown. The Mr. America angle was one of the stupidest storylines that WWE ever did. They put a red, white and blue mask on Hogan, made him wear the USA colors on his tights and boots and called him Mr. America. Everybody knew who it was right away. It was a tongue in cheek kind of deal where they knew the audience was aware of what was happening and didn't seem to care that it was so stupid. The feud involved Mr. America going up against Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper as heels, and saw further involvement by a younger wrestler, Sean O'Haire. If the angle was put together in order to put O'Haire over Mr. America, then that would have been fine, but instead, the angle didn't seem to have a point. The whole thing abruptly ended in the summer of 2003 and there really wasn't any follow up to it: we didn't see Hogan again until WrestleMania 21 in 2005 when he was inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame. There were no winners when it came to Mr. America despite the effort to push the gimmick. And the losers were innumerable: anybody that was forced to watch those painful matches and segments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqqfMaxU0f8
